Taking Responsibility for Your Health

A few generations ago, most people relied solely on their doctors for health information. Today, though, we are likely to utilize a number of sources when considering our health and well being. Sure, we still need doctors, but we need more.

First of all, we need doctors who are interested in more than just treating our symptoms. We need caregivers who will help us to make sound choices for ourselves and help us to understand what our bodies need for optimal health. Additionally, many of us are beginning to understand the importance of overall well-being -- a combination of physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness, and how these factors are intertwined in our lives.

I don't know about you, but the family doctor that I saw during my childhood would have laughed at the notion that robust health requires giving attention to the mind and the spirit. Fortunately, this attitude is outdated, and more and more physicians are treating their patients with the concept of whole wellness in mind.

In the end, it is up to each of us to decide what works in our own lives, in our own bodies. It is our responsibility to take the lead in seeing that we get what we need -- physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Is it worth the effort to make self-care a top priority? Our lives depend on it, so while we are bound to stumble a bit along the way, it is absolutely worth a try.

Cable TV, Internet, and Phone Bundles

Last year, our cable television company offered us a special package deal. Since we were already subscribing to cable TV and had high speed internet service through the same company, we found that our monthly cable bill would actually be lower if we added a hard line telephone. So, of course, we did. We really didn't need a home phone -- we both have cell phones and were doing just fine without a house phone, but the customer service agent assured us that even after the initial year of discounts for having all three services, our costs would still be no more than what we'd been paying for just the cable TV and internet, so we agreed.

Yeah, big mistake.

The year is up and our bill is considerably higher than it was before, and "customer service" says that we are getting the best price they currently offer. We'll probably drop the home phone, but we've passed out that number to half of the civilized world, so it'll be a bit of a pain to no longer have it.

GGGGGRRRRRR!

So, bottom line on the "discount bundle price" for cable TV, high speed internet, and home phone? NOT worth a try.

L'Oreal Couleur Experte Hair Coloring

I've been coloring my occasional gray hairs since I was in my early thirties, but over these past months, I've considered letting the ever increasing amount of gray take its natural course. The problem is, the gray roots stand out horrible against the brown colored portion, so every month or so, I find myself in front of the bathroom mirror, dousing my head with smelly goop.

A few months ago, I tried a two-step hair coloring product that I'd never attempted before. L'Oreal Couleur Experte Hair Coloring is AMAZING! The first step is a flat color and the second is to apply highlights. The process couldn't be simpler and the results are surprisingly salon-like -- but without the salon coloring prices.

The color choices are abundant. I'm currently using 7.0, Biscotti, which gives me light brown color with really nice blond highlights. I like the light parts so much that I'm considering going with more highlights on my next touch up. I was a bit nervous about them looking unnatural, so I was pretty conservative the first time around.

So L'Oreal Couleur Experte Hair Coloring? Oh yeah, absolutely worth a try!

Home Grocery Delivery

For several years now, my family has used Peapod for most of our grocery shopping. They are terrific!

The food is always fresh, the customer service people are top-notch, and as long as you watch the sales (like all grocery stores), the prices are fine. The best thing? They bring the stuff right to your door for only $6.95 per delivery. Most of us spend that much on impulse items at the store, and then regret those packages of cookies that were thrown in the cart on a whim.

I haven't tried any other home grocery delivery places -- mostly because after trying Peapod, I haven't felt the need to. They'd be hard to beat!

Worth a try? You bet!

No More Buyer's Remorse

I hate spending money on stuff that let's me down. It really, really ticks me off. I work hard for my paycheck, so when I shell out some of that cash, I want to feel satisfied that I got my money's worth.

How about you? Do you have money to throw away? Probably not, but if you do, I'd be happy to give you my PayPal email address and you can throw some of it my way. :O)

For the rest of us, product reviews can help a great deal. Knowing what other people think of products and services can make it easier to choose right the first time.

I'll be happy to give you my opinions. Do with them what you will.
